Welcome to our FAQ!
The FAQ is mostly just a rehash of the one that is found in the (D2OL)™ Support Forum, but since I wrote that one, there is no reason why I cannot use it here. If you have any questions not answered here or wish to have something added to the FAQ; please e-mail me and I will be happy to get back to you with an answer.

Installation and Registration:
Q: Where do I download the (D2OL)™ software?
A: The software is available at the Rothberg Institute's (D2OL)™ web site, or click on the Download link at the top of this page and choose the preferred installer for your platform.

Q: Why are there two different installers, one with and another without the Java Virtual Machine?
A: Two different installers are provided for your convenience. If you already have Java 1.4.1 or newer installed on your machine then there is no need to download the installer that includes Java. If not you can either download the latest Java version from Sun Microsystems or download the (D2OL)™ installer that includes the Java Virtual Machine. Users of AMD's Athlon64 and Opteron CPUs should try Java JRE 5.0 package for Windows AMD64, as it supports AMD64.

Q: I have the (D2OL)™ software downloaded; how do I install it?
A: Installation is pretty straight forward. If you would like to view the Team Frozen Yogurt step-by-step install guide with screen shots, please click here.
Run the installer and answer all appropriate questions; the defaults are generally acceptable for most users. (A note to Mac OS X users: currently there is no option to change the default install folder. More information about this can be found in the Official (D2OL)™ Mac Client Forum FAQ.) You will be asked if you want to install over an old Version 1.2 installation or install Version 2.0 from scratch; select Version 2.0 and proceed per the instructions. When finished the installer will ask if you want (D2OL)™ to start automatically when your computer starts up. Select yes or no according to your preference. Now the (D2OL)™ client will start, asking for your e-mail address (in order to track your stats and nodes). Once entered the client should connect to the Internet, download candidates and start crunching.

Q: What’s up with the GUI-less Linux installer?
A: The GUI-less Linux installer is just a compressed file with the (D2OL)™ software already installed in its proper location. Simply uncompress the file to wherever you want (D2OL)™ to be located, then run it.

Q: When I installed (D2OL)™, I didn't tell it to start when Windows starts up, but now I want it to… I checked all the preferences in (D2OL)™, but could not find a startup option. Is there any way to set (D2OL)™ to start when Windows launches without re-installing?
A: Yes, the client creates a short-cut in the Startup folder in the Windows Start Menu. To do this manually, just right click on the START button and select "Open All Users" from the context menu. Browse to the Startup folder and right click again in an open area and select "New >> Shortcut" from the context menu. Follow the instructions to create the shortcut to D2OL.exe. The default install folder for (D2OL)™ in Windows is C:\Program Files\SengentD2OL\D2OL; if you changed the default install folder, you will need to find D2OL.exe where you installed to in order to create the shortcut.

Q: What am I supposed to do now that the candidates have been downloaded?
A: Just let (D2OL)™ run in the background and do it's work. Every six hours the client will try to connect to the (D2OL)™ servers to upload completed results and download new candidates. For always on connections this is will hardly be noticed; for dial-up users, set your queue big enough for a few days of work. For example: on an AMD Athlon XP 1800+, you should be able to clear 75 results per day. You may wish to set your queue to hold at least five days worth for your system. NOTE: Uploading work units will temporarily saturate your dialup bandwidth! Don't plan to do much surfing while you're uploading…
