The FAQ is mostly just a rehash of the one that is found in the CommunityTSC Support Forum, but since I wrote that one, there is no reason why I cannot use it here. Stats and Teams:

Q: How can I check my stats?

A: There are several ways to check and monitor your stats, but first you must register each computer's client Node IDs with the CommunityTSC stat server and become a member. To become a member you need to visit the TSC Member Services webpage, which can be found by clicking on the 'Teams' shortcut on the main CommunityTSC web page. You will need to register first before you continue. This requires that you know the Node ID of your client, which is located in the upper right corner of the GUI screen. Enter the e-mail address that you used when installing the client and choose a Member Name and Password. Click on 'Create' and you will be sent to your member services home page. Everything you've crunched before becoming a member will be waiting for you, so don't worry if you joined 'late'. After this you will see your stats appear on the CommunityTSC stats page as well as a number of *****third party stats sites (TFY LINKS)*****, including (soon) Team Frozen Yogurt's own.

Q: How do I join Ars Technica Team Frozen Yogurt?

A: Once you have completed all of the steps to create your member home page you can join a team. From your member services home page follow the links in the 'Team Information' section. You can either click on 'A' and find Ars Technica Team Frozen Yogurt, or perform a search using 'Ars Technica' as your keywords. Click on the team name and you will be a member of TFY. We're happy to have you on-board!

Q: Can I use more than one computer for CommunityTSC?

A: Please do! Install the CommunityTSC client on your other machines the same way you did your first one, making sure to use the same e-mail address on all installations. After the additional installs are up and running go to your member services home page and scroll to the bottom where you will find a button for adding new nodes. Click on the button and follow the instructions to add your new nodes to your account. If you miss this step, your machines will be working properly, but the stats won't be attributed to you!

A special note on adding clients to computers other than your own: don't do it unless you have permission!!! It's one thing to ask a person if they'd like to use their computer's unused cycles for a good purpose, it's quite another to subject that user's PC to a program which could interrupt their workflow or cause them to think their computer has slowed down because something's broken. If you plan on adding the CommunityTSC client to machines at your workplace or school, make sure you speak with the administrator who can give blessings on the installations. It is ILLEGAL to install programs without permissions in schools and businesses; you could face fines or even jailtime if you do this!

Q: What is a node?

A: A node is simply an identification number of each one of your computers to the CommunityTSC servers. All stats are at the Node level. Nodes stats are aggregated to Members which in turn are aggregated to Teams. TFY recommend that you back up all of your Node IDs so that you never lose them. In Windows, the file can be found at C:\Program Files\CommunityTSC\TSC\res\ and is named node.prp. Create folders named with each Node ID number and copy the node.prp files into the appropriate folder. For help backing up Mac OS X and Linux nodes, please visit the forums at D2OL (CommunityTSC's sister project) and ask your question in the respective 'Client' sections. Instructions given for D2OL clients will be similar to CommunityTSC clients; specify that you're using CommunityTSC instead.

Q: Why does my client report different statistics than what my Member Service homepage shows?

A: The client keeps a total tally of what it has crunched. The CommunityTSC stat website reports what the stat server has accepted as valid results. Sometimes completed results have errors in them that make then unusable, maybe from an upload problem. Other times, a bad candidate file can be crunched but will be rejected by the stat server. CommunityTSC will only credit accounts for work done that can actually be used by the project. The website is the record by which everyone abides; if you have a discrepancy, please contact the project administrator at help@childhooddiseases.org in order to explore why your work may have been rejected.
